January 09 Highland Post

Happy New Year!!!

I didn't get a good December year end email out along with a photo for our "Christmas edition" of the monthly letter - so we'll add that to this.

2008 in review:

March:
Brian started a new job with ZAGG - down in Salt Lake City

May:
Jarom earned his Eagle Scout!

June:
Brian's father passed away at the age of 82
Lareen's Brother Bryan (who had lost his wife 2 year prior and moved in by us) remarried a wonderful girl
We sold our house and moved to 9815 N. 6180 W. Highland UT 84003.

July:
Went on a Church History Tour to Kirtland and Palmyra with the Packer side of the family for our reunion
Emma was baptized in Kirtland
Logan and Hannah went to Girls Camp with the new Stake (Hannah was invited even though she wouldn't officially be 12 until August)

August:
The kids started school - first time to go to regular public schools in 4 years (we'd been going to a Charter School in Idaho)
- Logan as a Sophomore at American Fork High School (she's taking Driver's Ed)
- Jarom as an 8th grader at American Fork Jr. High
- Hannah as a 7th grader at American Fork Jr. High
- Emma as a 3rd grader at Legacy Elementary

September:
Lareen's parents move in with us for what is expected to be an extended stay while Lareen's father goes through extensive Liver treatments.
Lareen's father passes away within the first week at our home at the age of 67

October:
Lareen and I celebrate our 17th Anniversary - WOW

November:
Thanksgiving with the Packer side of the family here in Utah

December:
Wonderful white Christmas with tons of snow!!
Left the day after Christmas for Idaho - long drive with road closures and slick roads - 9 hours to Weiser Idaho.
Kids were able to reunite with friends and cousins from Idaho for some much needed recharging of their batteries.

We feel very blessed that things turned out this year as they did. The new job with ZAGG was a great blessing after hearing about a number of layoffs at HP. We are grateful for the wonderful Miller family that purchased our home in Greenleaf and who are loving and caring for it, Dot (our horse that they also purchased), the cats and our beloved Caldwell 4th Ward. What a blessing that worked out with the Real Estate market going as crazy as it has. We have been renting here in Highland waiting and hoping for the right home to come available in our new ward here in Highland - we have an offer on home, but it could be a bit of a process before we find out if it will be accepted by the bank. We have lost both of our father's - but we know that they are happy and living pain free and we rejoice in that wonderful knowledge that comes through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We miss our friends and family in Idaho and rejoice in our new friends and our closer proximity to family that is here in Utah.

We have had a number of people come and live or stay with us during the few months we've lived here and have appreciated the blessings that have come because of that. We'd love to have more visits from friends and family - so if you need a place to stay while in Utah, we'd love to have you.
