May 07 Greenleaf Post

I haven't been doing a very good job of staying on top of this for the past few months. When that happens it becomes easy to forget when I last sent an update and what exactly has gone on since. So, I'll just give some quick updates on what is going on.

First Lareen's brother's family - heretofore referred to as Bryan's family - is doing great! Bryan has a job doing counter-tops and the kids are really doing good in a lot of ways. Lauretta (the oldest daughter who is 16) has been on some great dates and has dated a really nice boy a couple of times that is in the band with her and he is a quality kid from a great family. The best part is that he is a part of a really great group of friends - so Lauretta is now included in this great group of friends. So, Lareen and I are so thrilled about that we can hardly stand it. This is great because by Lauretta getting included into a great group of friends - the next daughter, Lindsey, will also have the same in. Lindsey is 15.

Logan is doing great. Her teacher is really working on creative writing with the class and Logan's project at this point is a whole bunch of poems. I really love them. I know I may be biased here - but I think she is a very talented poet. She is not only writing the poems but illustrating them as well. I have one of them on my computer so I'm going to share it with you.

On September 11th, our nation saw the face of evil.

The attacks were meant to bring us to our knees, and they did, but not in the way that the terrorists intended.

The wounds of that morning are still fresh, for we still remember the innocent who died on that day, and we pay tribute to those who gave their lives so that others might live.

The spirit from those who are gone, and from those who live are the source of America's strength.

We must put aside our differences, and with that spirit, work together to meet the test that history has given us:

The desire of millions to be free.

Do we have the confidence, do we have the trust, do we have the courage, and do we have the faith in our loving God who made us free.

When the battles are won, when our soldiers drive out that evil, the clouds of war will part, and hopefully the evil around us and inside us will be driven out too.

The calling of our generation is now.

We are in the war that will set the course for this new century, and will determine the destiny of millions across the world. We must join together now and learn that life is much to short without love.

Jarom has jumped back into Baseball and is doing great. I was supposed to be the coach but the games ended up on Monday and Wednesday of each week and since I would not be able to be there every other Wednesday due to my church responsibilities - I'm the assistant coach instead. Anyway, we have some great kids and despite the fact that we have some little guys that have never played before - we have some great pitching, we seem to get a lot of walks, and we are very aggressive base runners. We have only lost to one team so it has been fun. Jarom plays 3rd base mostly with a bit of shortstop and 2nd base. He's a pretty good hitter as well.

Hannah is really doing great with school. Her final project was a report on the state of Mississippi and she did really great and it is very nice to have that in the rear view mirror. The kids are all looking forward to the summer break.

Emma is the social queen. She is on the phone with her friends all the time it seems. I don't remember the other girls being like this. It really makes me nervous about her teenage years.

Lareen and I are doing good - the career change for me has been a huge blessing to our family. Many of you - if not all of you - have been emailed a about a side project I have going on called ExcuseToGolf.com. It is a business networking/golf site. It is in beta right now - but I'm hoping to get it really rolling this summer.
